After Lives: A Performative Lecture and Discussion
with Artists Abou Farman, Leonor Caraballo, and Matteo Norzi

With the successful premiere of their film Icaros: a vision at the Tribeca Film Festival, producer Abou Farman and co-directors Leonor Caraballo and Matteo Norzi presented an evening focused on plants, healing and filmmaking as an afterlife project. The evening featured a performative lecture followed by a discussion of the work of caraballo-farman (on view in the current exhibit In the Power of Your Care) and the film, which was shot at an Ayahuasca retreat in Peru and partly based on late artist Leonor Caraballo’s experiences with cancer and shamanism.
Bios
caraballo-farman is a two person team composed of Abou Farman and Leonor Caraballo, working in new media, video, installation and photography since 2001. caraballo-farman's work has been supported by several foundations and art centers, including: 2011 New York Foundation For the Arts Fellowship, 2010 Guggenheim Fellowship, NYFA (SOS), Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Canada Council for The Arts, the New York Community Trust, Eyebeam Art and Technology Center, and Art Omi. Their work has been shown around the world at venues such as the Tate Modern, PS1, Whitney ISP, Artists Space, El Museo del Barrio, LAXART, Havana Biennial, and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
Matteo Norzi is a visual artist, from Uruguay and Italy, living in NYC. His explorative artistic practice took him through several extensive journeys along six continents. His art has been supported by important institutions, including Art in General, NY; Headlands Center for the Arts, CA; ArtistsSpace, NY; and Spinola-Banna Foundation for the Arts, Italy. As part of the collaborative duo Isola&Norzi he has exhibited internationally at venues such as GAM, Turin; NMNM, Monaco; David Roberts Art Foundation, London; Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, Venice; and Museion, Bozen. Icaros: A Vision marks his debut as a feature film writer and director. He brings with him years of personal experience and extensive research on Shipibo-Conibo history, culture and knowledge.
