The #PBParty is a benefit event for the Participatory Budgeting Project (PBP), the first and only US organization whole sole focus is to help cities and communities implement “participatory budgeting,” which The New York Times calls “revolutionary civics in action.” Participatory budgeting gives people direct decision-making power over public spending, through an engaged, inclusionary, and democratic process in which they collaborate with government and community organizations in entirely new ways. The result is dramatically increased civic engagement, and millions of discretionary dollars spent as the community best sees fit.
At the benefit, PBP will honor three partners: the Community Development Project of the Urban Justice Center, Silaka Cox of Rockaway Youth Alliance, and the Democracy Fund. In keeping with the work that they do, attendees will be able to vote on how a portion of their ticket price/donations will be spent.
