The Supper Club, On View from September 21, 2017 - January 13, 2018

Elia Alba's The Supper Club, a solo exhibition focused on racial politics and visual culture, is comprised of three components: an ongoing series of socially-engaged dinners, an exhibition of 60 photographic portraits of the artists who participated in the dinner conversations, and a book scheduled for publication in 2018. The project began in the summer of 2012 with Elia Alba photographing a group of artists of color...

Cultured, "Dinner and A Revolution," Oct 2017

""'When we want to talk about diversity, it’s not a binary—it’s intersectional,' says New York-based artist Elia Alba. 'There is diversity within diversity.' Her words arise as we discuss her upcoming exhibition 'The Supper Club,' which opens late September at The 8th Floor in New York. Alba’s new show is a multi-layered project that began in 2012 when she, a black-identified Latinx artist, wanted to connect with fellow artists of color in her community and give them a voice..."

Observer, "Elia Alba’s ‘Supper Club’ Photos Bring Voices of Color to the Proverbial Table," 9.22.2017

ABOUT

The 8th Floor is an independent exhibition and event space established in 2010 by Shelley and Donald Rubin to promote artistic and cultural initiatives. Inspired by The Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation, the gallery is committed to broadening the access and availability of art to New York audiences. Seeking further cultural exchange, The 8th Floor explores the potential of art as an instrument for social change in the 21st century, through an annual program of innovative contemporary art exhibitions and an events program comprised of performances, salon-style discussions, and those organized by external partners.
