In the Power of Your Care: Exhibition Opening
Andreas Sterzing, David Wojnarowicz (Silence=Death); New York, 1989/2014
In the Power of Your Care is an exhibition about health and health care as human rights, and the interdependencies of care in our culture, from personal relationships to systems of care in a policy context. Addressing issues such as the FDA’s ban on gay and bisexual blood donations (which was partially lifted in December of 2015), the politics of institutionalized care in the contexts of hospitalization and military detention, as well the challenges posed by medical treatment of diseases like breast cancer and HIV, In the Power of Your Care proposes that health as a human right can be upheld through both community-based efforts and policy change. The exhibition will be on view April 19, 2016 to August 12, 2016.
Artists include caraballo-farman, Jordan Eagles, Pepe Espaliu, Rajkamal Kahlon, Simone Leigh, Ana Mendieta, Mladen Miljanovic, Frank Moore, Carmen Papalia, Hunter Reynolds, Jo Spence, Andreas Sterzing, Sunaura Taylor, Fred Tomaselli, Hannah Wilke, David Wojnarowicz, and Jody Wood.
